Today is a throwback to Miss Charlie’s Rainbow 1st Birthday Party in 2011.
A rainbow theme was an easy pick for us, not only is it bright and fun but also because Charlotte is our ‘Rainbow Baby’ which is a term used to describe a baby born after a loss (as in, a rainbow after the storm). In our case, Charlotte was born 15 months after our first daughter passed away and she brought joy and happiness back to our lives, so we thought a colourful Rainbow Party would be the perfect way to celebrate her 1st Birthday.
The Party Hat was the very first hat I ever made and it was not long after this party that Little Miss Charlie’s Treasures came about. The candle cup and plate on the high chair is now known in our house as ‘The Birthday Set’ and Miss Charlie has used it on all of her birthdays so far (she just turned 5), the set also includes a dinner-size plate and a bowl as well and it makes for a lovely birthday tradition, which I hope will continue for many years to come.
The rainbow layer cake and cake topper was made by me. I made a double batch of vanilla cake batter and then divided it into six potions and used food colouring to tint each layer a different colour (tip use gel food colours such as Wilton, the supermarket food colours may not give such a vibrant result). I made the cake topper as a mini version of the high chair banner and the Happy Birthday banner behind the dessert table, it is no secret how much I love matchy-matchy things!!
There was lots of DIY involved in this party, but by far the one thing I get the most questions about is the big number ‘1’ I made for the front of our house. It was made from an old delivery box we had lying around. I traced and cut out the 1 shape and painted it white and then stuck on coloured paper circles, I added the party hat just for fun! Along with a bunch of balloons tied to our letterbox it made a great welcome to the party.
The birthday girl wore a rainbow tutu and ‘1’ top with a colourful headband.
I have similar outfits available to order here.
Thanks for reading along. If you have any questions or comments about our rainbow party, please feel free to leave them below and I will do my best to get back to you.
Until next time,
